Hi Mike,

You are familiar with some of my use cases, e.g. being able to extend
mooring data queries/plotting across historical QC'd deployments and the
current deployment.  More recently, I have been thinking about use cases
for ship and AUV data:
1) AUV
The AUV quicklook plots and data serve well for knowing when, where and
what, and permitting analysis by various software, and I think a
relatively simple front-end would facilitate access greatly.  For
example, I am picturing a calendar top end, in which the user can page
through year and month and see AUV survey days highlighted.  The links
from those days bring you to the 2-column quick-look, because this plot
does the best job of showing where and what for that survey.  Then below
that plot are the links to other quicklook plots (QC, nav) and data
files in different formats.
2) Ship
Similarly, I like the idea of calendar/quick-look plots as a top-end
organizer.  For example, say I wanted to look at what was happening at
M1 during June 2008.  I could tune my calendar to June 2008, see a
monthly time series from the M1 sensors, select June X on which the
Lobos conducted a profile and drill down into full-resolution CTD
profiles, and physical/chemical/phytoplankton results from bottle
samples.  For the CTD profiles, I like one thing the CIMT data site
does, which is to show in a quick-look plot the current profile overlaid
on a background of all profiles taken at that site, so the user can
readily see anomalies.  There are a number of ways to do this, e.g.
showing a profile and its anomaly profile (relative to the climatology
for that month or season), etc.
